THE HISTORY

A storied estate, a Westport original

The Inn at Longshore's story stretches back more than a century, when the waterfront property was part of a grand private estate along the shores of Westport. In the early 20th century, it became the estate of millionaire Frederick E. Lewis, whose legendary gatherings drew an extraordinary circle of guests and helped establish Longshore as a destination for entertaining. In the summer of 1920, nearby residents F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald moved through the same social world, giving rise to enduring local lore that Westport's lavish waterfront lifestyle may have helped inspire The Great Gatsby. In 1929, the estate began its next chapter as the Longshore Beach and Country Club, continuing its tradition as a place to gather and celebrate. The Town of Westport acquired Longshore in 1960, preserving the remarkable waterfront property for generations to come. Today, the Inn carries that legacy forward as one of Connecticut's most storied places to stay, dine, gather, and celebrate.

THE RENOVATION

The same spirit, beautifully renewed

A thoughtful renovation has ushered the Inn into its next chapter, reimagining the guest rooms, gathering spaces, and grounds while honoring the character that has defined Longshore for generations. Every detail was considered to preserve the warmth and sense of place guests have long loved, while introducing a fresh, refined perspective. The result feels both familiar and entirely renewed—a timeless waterfront retreat ready for what comes next.
